A mythical Chilean bird with metallic wings and shining eyes, which lives in caves near mines and eats gold and silver, bringing luck to any miner who sees it. Although personally I feel that were I a miner and I saw this bird, I would be concerned it might eat my livelihood, thus bringing luck of a more somber sort.

This lumberjack is a bear. Maybe he sometimes works with Smokey to make firebreaks, but mainly he is just trying to earn his pay like anyone, so he can afford decent housing and fish on the table.

This little guy is a commission for someone wanting a mascot for a site selling horror films. As soon as he said "zombie", I thought "cute". Apparently he had the same thought, so I went ahead and made the cutest zombie ever!

Ugh. I'll post some commentary or something when I'm not dead tired at 4:00 am.
Update: Alright, here we go. You've seen the sketch already but I posted it here for continuity.
I fixed some things when I traced out the lines. Then I threw up a middle grey to work against and put down a base colour for her.
Marking out the underside of the arms where the suckers will go and adding a bit of texture.
Adding her markings. They're kind of like freckles... Thats what I called them anyways.
The very important step of adding suckers. I actually added them in two layers, one underneath. Then I duplicated the line and used parts of it to make sure everything overlapped properly.
Shadow.
More shadow, and some highlights.
Here is a layer of detail on the face, plus I changed the colour of the lines bacause I thought the black was too harsh. I think the eyes look a lot better now.
The "background", which is actually several layers behind her and a few in front as well. This is the finished product.
Greyscale. I referenced this, plus a version showing only hue and one with only saturation. I was fair to middling satisfied with them by the time I was finished.
I don't know if anyone cares, but this is my setup.

Finished Octopus...?

Well here it is at last. After all the time spent on it, I can't tell if it was worth it. The drawing itself conveys nothing beyond a vague "octopuses are neat", and I wonder if I should have resolved some things or perhaps unresolved them. Also the colour job seems rather lacklustre despite a file size resulting in a five minute save time. Not to mention that there is a very large part of me that wants to know exactly where her gills are, and the two extra hearts dedicated to pumping her blue blood through them. I am somewhat certain that behind the arms on her head there is a gigantic brain, which she needs to co-ordinate her 18 arms, even with the heavy nerve cord in each of them (except the two human ones). Most likely she has trouble knowing where they all are by feel, and must rely on sight to keep track of them. But there are things I like. After all, octopuses are neat.I opened this image and the sketch in different tabs and enjoyed flipping between them. I have decided that the coloured version at the very least did not make it worse. If I were very ambitious I would post a greyscale version, or even a few showing the layers...

This is the thing I've been working on. Its not important however it is very large. So it is taking a long time. Also because I want to try to do a decent job painting it rather than just adding flat colour. We'll see how that turns out.

The Return of the Prodigal Son

Dave did this great drawing, and I just had to colour it. It really spoke to me and I hope I did it justice.The Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15 11-32)

And (Jesus) said, “There was a man who had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living. And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything.

“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’ And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.
